Our World's "Situation" - #1

{ image credit }

I've put out a call for folks' opinions about the current "Situation of Our World". From time to time, as people send me their responses, I'll post them here.

The first response quotes the man pictured here, Jiddu Krishnamurti. I went to Wikipedia and found: "For nearly sixty years he travelled all over the world, pointing out to people the need to transform themselves through self knowledge..." which made me aware of the constant synchronicity in the universe, since the second response stresses education. And, even though education from the news isn't necessarily real close to self-knowledge, my second respondent links to CommonDreams.org which is a news site that respects and encourages self-knowledge...
This universe can be very friendly!

1st Response:

The following has been excerpted:

==========
1. SPR

Nothing can change a thing dynamically regarding the situation of The World if that thing must enter human beings through the mind and not exclusively the Heart. Nothing. The World (specifically, its “situation”) is the collective product of what is wrong with our individual hearts.

2. J. Krishnamurti

Questioner: What is the work of man?

Krishnamurti: What do you think it is? Is it to study, pass examinations, get a job, and do it for the rest of your life? Is it to go to the temple, join groups, launch various reforms? Is it man's work to kill animals for his own food? Is it man's work to build a bridge for the train to cross, dig wells in a dry land, to find oil, to climb mountains, to conquer the earth and the air, to write poems, to paint, to love, to hate? Is all this the work of man? Building civilisations [sic/British] that come toppling down in a few centuries, bringing about wars, creating God in one's own image, killing people in the name of religion or the State, talking of peace and brotherhood while usurping power and being ruthless to others — this is what man is doing all around you, is it not? And is this the true work of man?

You can see that all this work leads to destruction and misery, to chaos and despair. Great luxuries exist side by side with extreme poverty; disease and starvation, with refrigerators and jet planes. All this is the work of man; and when you see it don't you ask yourself, 'Is that all? Is there not something else which is the true work of man?' If we can find out what is the true work of man, then jet planes, washing machines, bridges, houses will all have an entirely different meaning; but without finding out what is the true work of man, merely to indulge in reforms, in reshaping what man has already done, will lead nowhere.

So, what is the true work of man? Surely the true work of man is to discover truth, God; it is to love and not to be caught in his own self-enclosing activities. In the very discovery of what is true there is love, and that love in man's relationship with man will create a different civilisation [sic], a new world.

Response:

To begin with, I think political education is important for people who wish to more fully grasp the situation of the world. In the age of the Internet, self-education is easier, but still requires a lot of work. I read about an hour or more of news each day from different resources. I've found the most educational resource to be www.commondreams.org. I also check up on CNN, and I've started reading Le Monde so that I can get news from an alternative perspective.

I've read about the advent of the citizen blogger as a new source for news items, but as of yet I haven't integrated checking blog sites out into my news gathering routine.

Cheers,

Kathy

"Be The Change..."

"Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace, to be real, must be unaffected by outside circumstances."

I'm sure you can see the connection between the quote from Gandhi and the picture of the children...

Three posts ago, our E-Mail Reporter, Sandy, had some provocative questions about "starving" children. Those kids over there sure aren't starving; at least not physically (and their spirits look pretty bright...)

The post just before this one concerned our Vision and how it shapes our action.

Here's Sandy once more with her take on that post:

Alex,
This, what you say here, is to me, an extremely important thing to be said!!! I think it's also one reason why Abdu'l-Baha exhorts us to BE HAPPY!! BE HAPPY!!! I mean, not to be of such good cheer and so giddy that all good sense goes out the window, but to be on a level of happiness, because of detachment from this material world, that our wings don't become helplessly and hopelessly stuck in the mess on the ground! God's guidance has always been here with us and always will be. The quote below that came in yesterday on quote-a-day says it perfectly, I think.
~ Sandy

"It behooveth him who is a wayfarer in the path of God and a wanderer in
His way to detach himself from all who are in the heavens and on the earth.
He must renounce all save God, that perchance the portals of mercy may be
unlocked before his face and the breezes of providence may waft over him.
And when he hath inscribed upon his soul that which We have vouchsafed unto
him of the quintessence of inner meaning and explanation, he will fathom all
the secrets of these allusions, and God shall bestow upon his heart a divine
tranquillity and cause him to be of them that are at peace with themselves."

"...be of them that are at peace with themselves."

Starting with this post, I'm going to veer in the direction of Spiritual Commentary on Global Events; and, I certainly pray you'll help me out...

The posts recently have dealt with our personal spiritual perspective, which is crucial for any attainment in the global arena!

So...

I'll begin by pointing to GlobalVoices once again: the site that pulls together blogs from all over the world (sort of a global perspective on many individuals' spiritual quests). If you scroll down the sidebar aways, you'll see the B.I.D.E. Global Blog Feed. It's from GlobalVoices.

Next, I want to bring your attention to a global "news" site that stresses reporting on the areas of maximum activity that aim at making our World a better place to live on: getting it back to a self-sustaining state (which includes a whole lot of inner spiritual strength...). The site is called OneWorld. This site is extremely dense with ripe information!

Yes! Magazine is the publication of Positive Futures Network: "an independent, nonprofit organization supporting people’s active engagement in creating a just, sustainable, and compassionate world." Here we have the awareness of personal tools we need in our global striving.

Next is OneCountry, a publication that stresses the deeper spiritual weapons we need to Wage Peace!

Finally, I present WorldPress.Org, the most "HardNews" site of the bunch. And, right here is where I need Your help...

Just below is a string of recent articles from WorldPress. I want to bring some Spiritual Commentary to one of those articles.

Will You Help?

Leave a comment (or, e-mail me: amzolt {at} gmail {dot} com) with your pick, O.K.?

Chaos of a Mighty Wind

We are all One...

Nice sentiment or actual fact?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Made a phone call yesterday to my friend and, rather than answering with "Hello.", they said, "A Mighty Wind...".
>>>This set all kinds of things swirling in my mind and heart:
***I'd just become aware of the big European wind storm with headlines like, "European storm leaves 47 people dead", and:
***because of my previous post about the Doomsday Clock and its hands getting closer to midnight attributed, in part, to global warming, and
***news channels talking about the wind storm in the context of global warming, and
***politicians starting to dance around that Issue, and
***other news channels pointing to the storm of 1999 and claiming this storm had nothing to do with global warming, and
***a concurrent virus attack called Storm Worm that used the European storm to lure people into opening infected e-mails, and,
***finally (Whew!), remembering the 2003 movie, A Mighty Wind, which was funny and made all the other connections in this swirling mind/heart assume their proper perspective,
>>>I pondered the Butterfly Effect: small changes here making big changes there (usually refered to as Chaos Theory) and...
the whole swirling mass of thought and emotion made extremely clear the interconnection of weather, news, history, hackers, comedy, danger, social action, and the comments of friends...
